Reflective Tape

Reflective tape is commonly sold in rolls or strips of material that have the ability to reflect light back to its source. Reflective tape is commonly used on vehicles, clothing, and other objects to make them more visible in low-light or nighttime conditions. Reflective tapes are made from a variety of materials, such as glass beads, microprisms, or retro reflective particles that are embedded in a thin, flexible adhesive backing. When light from a source, such as a car's headlights, hits the reflective tape, it is reflected back towards the source with a bright intensity, making the object that the tape is attached to more visible. Reflective tape is designed for use on vehicles and traffic signs to increase their visibility at night, especially in poor lighting conditions. They can also be used on clothing, such as safety vests or other gear worn by workers who need to be highly visible in low-light environments.

Some Reflective Tapes are DOT certified and are often referred to as Conspicuity or Retro reflective tapes. These tapes have an outdoor grade durable adhesive and can be certified to perform for up to 7 years in outdoor applications . These tapes have been proven to greatly add to the safety of large vehicles due to the increased visibility when they are applied. They are available in a wide variety of colors Silver (white), yellow, red, orange, fluorescent green & blue.

Reflective tape is made up of a urethane film backing which is then coated with a permanent acrylic adhesive. In most cases, they also have a polyethylene coated paper release liner to cover the adhesive prior to application.

However, choosing the best reflective tape really depends on your application. For example, there is no need to pay for a 7 year all weather warning tape if your application doesn't call for it. Is reflective tape legal to use?

You should always check local and state laws before applying Reflective tape on your car. Most applications are legal to use generally legal but it may be illegal to apply reflective tape to areas like windows tail lights. Both of these areas are more regulated in terms of visibility and DOT regulations.

What is the definition of retro reflectivity?

Retro reflectivity (or Retroreflectivity) is simply when a surface returns a large portion of directed light beam back to its original source. Retroreflective materials appear brightest to observers nearest the light source like pedestrians or vehicles.

Do you offer custom colors of reflective tape?

We do not offer custom colors because there is already a wide variety of high intensity reflective colors available.
